Josephine Smith Horton, age 89, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away at Arkansas Hospice in Little Rock on October 19, 2009. She was born October 24, 1919, to Millard and Lucy Smith at Pine Snag. Josephine married Loyd Calvin Horton September 14, 1940, at West Pangburn by Pastor Goodman. Josephine was nicknamed "Josie." She was a homemaker, farmer, and mother all of her adult life, having a full time job raising seven children. Josie was a member of the West Pangburn Community Church for nearly 50 years of her life.
Josie loved gardening, her flowers, her many friends, and spoiling all of her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Horton, on August 8, 1996; her parents, Millard and Lucy Smith; her sisters, Wilma Snow of Washington State, Pruvie Whitehurst, Velma Garrison and brother, Carson Smith, all of the Pine Snag community.
She is survived by seven children, Cecil Horton, Nellie Lott, Joann Ferren, Lonnie Horton, Phil Horton, and Marvin Horton, all of Heber Springs, and Robin Curtis of Donaldson; 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 2:00 p.m. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Bennie Foster and Rev. Evert Mason officiating. Interment will follow in the Good Springs Cemetery.
