McGARRAH, A.R. - A.R. McGarrah, one of the oldest citizens of Rogers, died at his home on North C street Monday, Jan. 20th after a protracted illness. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. T.D. Penn and burial was in the McDaniel cemetery south of town. The deceased was born Sept. 2, 1853 at Cross Hollows, just a few miles south of town, and was married Dec. 14, 1871 to Miss Ann McDaniel of near Rogers and to them were born nine children, three having died when small. The remaining ones are Osa and Bruce, the latter in the service of his country and is yet in France; Mrs. Sarah Nail of Lowell, Ark.; Mrs. Eliza Thornsbrue of Kansas City, Kan.; Mrs. Meda Bolen of Webb City, Mo.; Mrs. Iris Motter, Baxter Springs, Kan., all of whom were here except the one son. A large number of other relatives are left to mourn his departure, among whom is one sister, Margaret, Mrs. Matt Campbell of Monte Ne, who is living on the old home place. Were we to try we could not name a man who is better known in Rogers and vicinity than Abe McGarrah, as will be seen by the above that he has lived in and near Rogers all his life. He was of a quiet disposition, always going about his affairs in an unpretentious and business-like manner, never speaking ill of any one, and in his business affairs he was strictly honest. His demise is mourned by a host of friends, who join in extending sympathy to the bereaved ones.
