Bertha Gladys Powell of Springdale died Friday, December 15, 2000. She was born June 16, 1910, the daughter of Benner and Hannah Margaret Drake Davis. She was a member of Fishback Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mirl C. Powell, to whom she was married for 61 years and one son, Don Powell. She is survived by nine children: Junior Powell, Lois Satterfield, Doris Carter, Joyce Carr, Sue Ward, Jerry Powell, Merlene Robertson, all of Springdale; Jim Powell of Siloam Springs; and Barbara Hall of Summers; one sister, Geneva Faulkner of Huntsville; 24 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2000, at the chapel of Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Springdale, with Rev. Homer Ross and Rev. Glen Faulkner officiating. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Rick Satterfield, David Carter, James Carr, Lee Ward, Johnny Powell, Pete Robertson, Colby Hall, Eddie Powell, and Shawn Powell. Honorary pallbearers were: Troy Carter, Bobby Hall and Paul Powell.
