Obituary
The Monticellonian
Monticello, Arkansas
20 Nov 1902, Thu • Page 2
Mr. Henry Pierce, died at his home at Fountain Hill, Oct. 24th 1902, surrounded by his faithful, affectionate wife and children. Those of his children who were not present were immediately notified. His health has been such for two or three years, that he required constant cure and watchfulness, and the devotion shown him by his wife and children and especially Walter and Mamie, the youngest, who have never left him, was beautiful to see. Such devotion will not go unrewarded by Him who said "As ye have done it unto the least of one of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
Mr. Pierce was born near Raleigh, N C, June 9, 1825, and came to Ark. in 1856, and settled in Drew county. He was married four times, and to the present wife
(who was Mrs. L. E. White,) May, 1879. He professed religion at the age of seventeen, and was a consistent member of the Missionary Baptist Church
and had the confidence and respect of all who knew him In the absence of a minister, Mr. J. W. Pyron, an aged brother in the Church, conducted the burial
service. In the language of an unknown author we would say :
Go spirit of the sainted dead,
Go to thy longed for, happy home ;
The tears of man are o'er thee shed ;
The voice of angels bids thee come.
If life be not in length of days;
In silvered locks and furrowed brow,
But living to the Savior's praise,
So few have lived so long a thou.
Though earth may boast one gem less,
May not e'en heaven the richest be?
And myriads on the. foot-steps press
To share their blest eternity.
A Friend.
