HOWERTON, Martha A. GOOD Gunn - Martha A. Howerton, deceased, late wife of Henry L. Howerton, formerly wife of Timothy Gunn, daughter of John and Dorcas Good, was born in Rockingham county, Virginia, afterward moving with her parents to Shenandoah county, where her mother died when she was eleven years of age. Seven years later at the age of eighteen she moved with her sister to Ohio where she became acquainted with Timothy Gunn, to whom she was united in holy matrimony in March 1863. There were born to them five children, three of whom are still living. Later she moved to Indiana where her husband died in November 1877, leaving her a widow, in which state she remained until August 3, 1884 when she married Henry L. Howerton, with whom she lived until death, being 70 years, 1 month and 6 days old. She embraced the love of Christ at the age of 15, uniting with the Christian church and remaining a faithful Christian until the end, being a faithful wife and loving mother. The funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. and were conducted by Rev. C.T. Halbert, pastor of the Congregational church.
