JENKINS, Franklin Newton - Franklin Newton Jenkins was born in Attala county, Miss. Feb. 18, 1847. With his parents he moved to Texas in 1859. He was next to the youngest of a family of 11 children, having eight brothers and two sisters. His mother died June 4, 1864. Three brothers and one sister died in Attala county, Miss. when he was small. Two brothers died in Little Rock, Ark. during the war and one died in Nacogdoches county, Texas a short time after the war and another died in Fannin county in 1869, and was married to Miss Sarah Malvin Hollinghead Feb. 22, 1872. To this union were born ten children, seven of whom are still living, to wit: Jesse Alonzo Jenkins, living in western Texas; Anna Meek, Levada Hurst, John Jenkins, Arminda Thompson, Effie Sitton and William N. Jenkins, living in Benton county, Ark. Some years ago he professed a hope in Christ and united with the Baptist church, living a devout Christian life to the time of his death. He died at the family home near Springtown Friday, Feb. 7, 1913 after a protracted illness of several months. The body was laid to rest in the Springtown cemetery Saturday afternoon with religious services conducted by Eld. J.L. Chastain.
