Lavenda Spencer, age 51, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 15, 2009, after a four year battle with cancer. Born on July 20, 1958, at Heber Springs, she was the daughter of Ruby Adcock Gilpin and the late Clois Gilpin.
Lavenda was married to Don Spencer on April 20, 1984. She was a member of the Aldridge Road Church of Christ and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Lavenda leaves behind a legacy of helping and serving people, both young and old, and of devoted service to the Lord. She was best known for her work with children at Oaklawn Baptist Preschool, where she was the director and touched the lives of thousands in her lifetime.

Lavenda was preceded in death by her father, Clois Gilpin, in 1991.

She is survived by her husband, Don Spencer of Hot Springs; one son, Jason Spencer of Hot Springs; one daughter and son-in-law, Lindsey and Jonathon Leavitt of Searcy; her mother and stepfather, Ruby and Harold McFarlin of Heber Springs; two grandchildren, Kallen Leavitt and Keegan Leavitt, both of Searcy; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Harlin and Carla Gilpin and Chris Gilpin, all of Heber Springs; and her nieces and nephews. Lavenda is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
