Lorene Berniece Bench, age 79, of Rose Bud, Arkansas, passed away Friday, February 11, 2011, at her home near Hopewell.
Born in Miller, Arkansas, on December 31, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Marvin (J. M.) Dillon and the late Nora Mae Birdsong Dillon.
A homemaker, Berniece was retired from the Skil Corporation, after 16 years. Of the Baptist faith, she attended the South Cross Roads Church near Hopewell for several years, until her health would not permit.
In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Wilmer Dillon; sister, Virginia Mae Cashion; and nephew, Kenny Cashion.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Utah Bench; daughter, Sharon Hite of Romance; grandson, Gary Martin of Romance; sisters, Lucille West of Drasco and Betty Simpkins of Heber Springs; several nephews and nieces; and other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Feb. 13, at Olmstead Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 14, at the South Cross Roads Church off Hwy. 5 near Hopewell at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Kenneth Rolland, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Friendship Cemetery at the Friendship Freewill Baptist Church off Hwy. 5 between Hopewell and Rose Bud. Pallbearers are Gary Martin, Lanis Parish, Alan Smallwood, Grant West, Steve Hite, Jim Lafferty, Bobby Holland, and Charlie Cashion. Honorary pallbearers are Melvin E. (Bo) Martin, Bob West, Bruce West, Jason Holland, Teddy Riedel, and Leonard Roberson.
