Marie Alberta (Hansen) Kahland, age 95, of Rose Bud, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at the Byrd Haven Nursing Home in Searcy. Born October 7, 1914, at Chalco, Nebraska, she was the daughter of John Martin and Martha (Schwandt) Hansen. Marie spent her youth in Watertown, South Dakota, and finished public school there before entering business school.
Her first job after business school was in the office of Shaw-Messer Chapel Funeral Home, and then later as a secretary at Louisville, Nebraska High School for many years.
Marie married Marvin Kahland in 1940 and raised two sons, John and Robert, in Louisville, Nebraska.
Marie and Marvin moved to southern California in 1965 where she worked in the accounting department at Azusa and West Covina, California School District offices until her retirement in 1976.
After retiring, Marie and her husband moved to Rose Bud, Arkansas, where she worked as the Rose Bud City Clerk for ten years. Marie resided in Rose Bud for thirty years, 26 years of which she was a widow.
Marie has been a member of the Rose Bud United Methodist Church for the past 33 years. She was a gentle, caring child of God who was kind to all she met in the 95 years of her life. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, mother, brother Marvin Hansen, and husband Marvin Kahland.
She is survived by two sons, John Martin Kahland and wife, Martha, of Searcy, Arkansas, and Robert Kahland and wife, Joyce, of Glendale, Arizona; four grandchildren, Dawn Dietz of Searcy, Brad Kahland of Boulder, Colorado, Cathy Parish of El Mirage, Arizona, and Gary Kahland of Phoenix, Arizona; and three great-grandchildren, Derek and Lucy Parish and Rachel Dietz. Marie is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 27, at 2:00 p.m. at the Rose Bud United Methodist Church with Father Tom Bradshaw and Rev. Kathy DeBusk officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Bud Cemetery.
