Hazel Mae Pennington

EUFAULA, Okla. — Hazel Mae Pennington, 92, died June 16, 2008, at Eufaula Manor Nursing Home. She was born Dec. 13, 1915, in Sulphur City to Henry Lafayette Burris and Rhoda Lauraney Leonard Burris. She was valedictorian of her high school graduation class. She worked for the John Brown family and helped her husband on the family farm. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading and music. She was a member of the Garden Club. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and taught Sunday school. She served as president of the Women's Missionary Union and helped with various committees.

Survivors include two sons, William L. Pennington and wife Wilma of North Canton, Ohio, and Robert L. Pennington and wife Doris of Harrison; a daughter, Betty Nevills and husband Joe of Crowder, Okla.; a sister-in-law, Blanche E. Burris of Siloam Springs; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church. The service will follow. John Brown III and Louis Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Siloam Springs.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Youth Mission Trip to Africa, c/o First Baptist Church in Siloam Springs.
