Joseph Neal Heard husband of Grace Ellen (Lamb) Heard. son of William Heard and Ella Neal Heard. Grace Ellen (Lamb) Heard daughter of James Leonard Earl Lamb and Mattie Elizabeth (Manning) Lamb.


Grace Ellen Heard, 92, of Hoxie, passed away Monday, April 20, 2015 at the Lawrence Hall Nursing Center in Walnut Ridge.

Born September 28, 1922, to James Leonard and Mattie Elizabeth Lamb in the Oak Hill Community, she was married to Joseph N. Heard on May 17, 1941. She was the former owner/operator of Heard’s Market and was a member of Hoxie First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, twin infant daughters, brothers Jack, Cledith and Samuel Jackson Lamb, sisters Evelyn Rutledge, Ruth Whitmire and Hazel Whitmire and grandson Kyle Heard.

Surviving her are sons Bob (Shirley) Heard of Hoxie, Joe (Barbara) Heard of Bryant, Terry Carroll Heard of the home, Teddy Harold Heard (Dyan) of Walnut Ridge; daughters Dr. Linda Heard of Hot Springs and Marsha Heard Moore (Morris) of Walnut Ridge; sisters Esther Floyd of Walnut Ridge Iva Atkinson of Hoxie, Lillie Mae Whitmire of Jonesboro and Opal Christian of Rock Falls, Illinois; brother Curtis Lamb of Walnut Ridge; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Rob Heard, Shane Heard, Jonathan Heard, Stephen Heard, Ben Moore, Dylan Clark (in honor of Kyle Heard), Drew Heard and Brady Heard.

Honorary pallbearers will be, Ethan Moore, Colten Bennett, and Scott Heard.
