*Obituary
Rogers Democrat
Thursday, November 8, 1900
McGINNIS, J.R. - J.R. McGinnis of Larue, one of the best known and most prominent farmers in the east end of Benton county, died at his home last Friday noon. He was very sick last summer but was thought to be recovering and his death was a surprise to his friends in Rogers, who did not know he was worse. Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at the Martin cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. Bond and Clark Bland. Mr. McGinnis was born in Meigs county, Tenn. on May 19, 1849. He came to Benton county in 1865 and has resided here ever since. In 1871 he was married to Miss Reynolds, who survives him. He leaves six children: Mrs. J.H. Moss; A.F., who is teaching in Rogers Academy; A.S., who is teaching at War Eagle; Oliver, who is attending school here; Miss Ella and Roy. In the death of Mr. McGinnis Benton county loses one of her best citizens, the community a good neighbor and his family a kind father and a loving husband. They have the sympathy of their friends in Rogers.
