Mary Marie White Watson, 92, was born on August 26, 1924, in Pocahontas, Arkansas, to Henry (Papa) and Julia Bell Newton White (Mama Julie). She went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 1, 2017. She was married for 43 years to the late G.W. Watson. She became a Christian as a young adult and was a member of Arkansas City Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for 37 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Nettie White Ward and Maudie White Marcet, two brothers, Gordon White and James Elvis White; and two daughter in laws: Carolyn Sue Fowler Watson and Linda McMahan Watson.
Survivors include her three sons: Walter Watson (Shirley), Billy Watson, and Jimmy Dale Watson (Liz); six grandchildren: Randy Watson (Betty), Nona Watson, Lisa Watson Thomas (Keith), Jada Watson Kirtley (Allen), Lance Watson (Mimi), Michelle Reaves Bishop (Morris), Angela Appleton (Ron), and Mark Averett (Tracey); five great grandchildren: Taylor McCormack Smith (Dexter), Hunter Gill, Haylee Marie Kirtley, Johan Watson; and Chloe Bishop; 3 great-great grandchildren; Mackenzie Armstrong; Gracie Smith; and Harleigh Smith; and one brother, Jessie White, Texas, as well as many nieces and nephews and family and friends and her beloved 19 year old cat, Tom.
She was a loving mother, sister, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend. She was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to talk about shooting a 10-point buck, which is mounted in her home.
After the death of her husband, she traveled around the country with her good friends, Mrs. Marion Bowden, and the late Mrs. Dorothy Moore, Mrs. Eunice Garland, and Mrs. Mary Alice May.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Arkansas City Baptist Church with Bro. Jody Gannaway and Bro. Gene Gregory officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 5–8 pm at Griffin-Culpepper Funeral Service in McGehee, AR. Interment will be at McGehee Cemetery.
