Mrs. Daisy Hankins, long time resident of Ouachita County and Camden, died in Oxnard, California after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Hankins was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church, Camden, Arkansas and was active in many church and civic activities for many years. She was the mother of the late Mrs. Lois H. Nelson, former teacher and counselor in the Camden school system. Mrs. Hankins was the oldest member of the Daughters of the Elks of Arkansas and a member of the Silver Leaf Temple, Camden. Survivors include one son, Adolphe F. Hankins, Detroit, Mich.; six daughters, Mrs. Edna Warren, North Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Thelma Calhoun, Mrs. Lucille Reddich and Mrs. Willie Margaret Tatum, Oxnard, Calif., Mrs. Carolyn Watkins, Los Angeles, Calif. and Mrs. Norma Jean McLeod, Tulsa, Okla; eighteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at the St. James A.M.E. Church on Wednesday. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Williams Funeral Service in charge. (Camden News - December 11, 1972)
