Carl Dean Mallett, age 75 died May 5, 2011 at Conway Regional Medical Center. He was a respected coach, teacher, and school administrator for over twenty- nine years. He was attended of the Greenbrier Church of the Nazarene. Dean was born July 9th, 1935 in Bono, AR. to the late Carl and Clemmie Mallett. He graduated from Greenbrier High School in 1953 and attended Arkansas Tech University. He received his B.S.E. at Arkansas State Teacher’s College , now UCA, and was awarded his M.S.E.in Educational Leadership from the University of Arkansas.
In 1958, he married “the most beautiful woman he had ever seen,” his wife of 53 years Nancy Sue Lieblong Mallett.
Beginning his professional educational career in 1960 at Guy Perkins , he coached and was principal for thirteen years. He continued his career at Greenbrier Public Schools as coach and principal; he then served his last fifteen years in education as superintendent at Greenbrier. During Dean’s educational career he received several awards for distinguished service. Two of his proudest accomplishments as coach were his girls’ basketball team winning a state championship and his being selected as the first girls’ basketball All-Star coach in the state of Arkansas. He was also selected as Arkansas Administrator of the Year.
Dean joined the U.S. Army reserve in 1957. A combat engineer and a paratrooper, he commanded Company B 489th Engineer Battalion. He retired from the Army reserve with the rank of major.
He was widely respected as an educator and a military commander, favorably influencing the lives of both students and soldiers.
After retiring from education, Dean enjoyed raising both dairy and beef cattle and tending to his farm in Bono, AR.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Lieblong Mallett; his two sisters, Elizabeth Martin and Louise Gross; two sons ,Carl Scott Mallett and wife Wanda , and David Kevin Mallett, and two granddaughters Mackenzie Sue Mallett and Ashleigh Lane Mallett.
Visitation will be Friday, May 6, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Greenbrier. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 7, at 2:00 p.m. at the Greenbrier Church of the Nazarene with interment following at Republican Cemetery.
