MRS. ARA DICKSON HAD SPENT HER ENTIRE LIFE HERE

The death of Mrs. Arizona Dickson, who passed away Sunday afternoon, April 29, 1934, removes from our little city another of its members of pioneer families. Over three score years and ten, had been spent in Bentonville.

Her death was due to injuries received in an automobile accident thirteen weeks ago in New Orleans, where she was visiting her daughter, Mrs. J.C. Knott. The accident occurred just three days before she had planned to return to her home here.

She improved somewhat following the accident, and was able to make the return trip to the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.E. Patton. She rallied somewhat, but later began to grow weaker, until the end came at 3:15 o’clock on Sunday afternoon.

Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church Monday afternoon, the Rev. A.W. Henderson conducting the services, assisted by Rev. W.C. Wheat. The church choir, accompanied by C.L.D. Wharton, organist, sang three old favorite hymns. Burial took place in the Bentonville Cemetery. Pall bearers were Clint Crouch, M.W. Riddle, E.S. Miller, Marshall Bennett, Frank Harris and R.O. Cook.

Mrs. Dickson was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Berry R. Elzey and were among the early settlers in this community. She was born in Bentonville in 1857.

She was married to Ephriam H. Dickson in 1873, the Rev. Peter Carnahan officiating. He died several years ago. She united with the First Presbyterian Church in 1919, during the pastorate of Dr. H.W. Steen.

Surviving her are three daughters, Mrs. W. E. Patton at whose home she passed away, Mrs. W.W. Jefferson, of Bentonville; and Mrs. J.C. Knott of New Orleans; her grandchildren, Tommie and Leota Jefferson, William and Harry Patton, and Dickie Knott, also a great grandson, Wayman Jefferson, Junior.
