{from The Bridgeport Standard} On Wednesday afternoon, November 27 at three o'clock, funeral services were held in St. James' Protestant Episcopal church at New Haven over the remains of Elliott France, a member of the class of 1911 of the Bridgeport High school and at the time of his death a Sophomore in the Academic department at Yale. His sudden passing away last Monday night, a few days after an operation for appendicitis, came as an utterly unexpected and stunning blow upon his family and friends. The high regard in which he was held at the university was shown by the presence at the funeral services of President Hadley, Dean Jones, Professor Sanderson and other members of the faculty, together with many of his fellow students, including a group of his most intimate friends who acted as pall bearers. This report of his funeral will be to most of his friends in Bridgeport and vicinity the first news of his death, so suddenly did he pass from apparently perfect health in to the Valley of the Shadow. Elliott France, son of the Rev. John Cyril and Margaret Elliott France, was born in Bentonville, Arkansas in March 1894. His childhood was spent in the South but when he was about thirteen years of age his father became rector of the Episcopal church in Huntington and Elliott began his high school course at the high school in the neighboring town of Shelton. A year later the Rev. Mr. France became rector of St. Luke's church in Bridgeport and Elliott entered the Bridgeport High school, where his scholarship and charming personality won recognition and appreciation. At the end of two years he graduated Magna cum Laude and passed all his Yale entrance examinations with high credit and anticipated by successful examinations several college courses. The heartfelt sympathy of all who knew the dear boy is extended to the heart-broken parents and sister whose grief will last.
