Ms. Geverne Johnson, 78, of Crossett died Friday, August 31, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in Crossett. Mrs. Johnson was a native of Fountain Hill and a resident of Crossett for the past 63 years. She was a homemaker; a member of the Jarvis Chapel Baptist Church and a foster grandparent volunteer for many years. Her life revolved around her children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Grady "Goodbuddy" Johnson in 1996; her parents, George & Loree Colvin Uptigrove; two brothers, Thomas & Aubrey Uptigrove and a sister, Ruby Watkins. She is survived by a son, Larry E. Johnson of Hot Springs; two daughters, Phyllis Wesson and husband, Keith, of Mountain View and Jimmie Ann Grant and husband, Jerry, of Crossett; six brothers, Ernest Uptigrove of Bastrop, LA, Rodney Uptigrove of Sour Lake, Texas, Bobby Uptigrove of Fort Smith, AR, Donnie Uptigrove of Forest City, AR, and Jerry & Jimmy Uptigrove both of Little Rock; a sister, Mary Saunders of Hermitage; six grandchildren, Danny & Bryan Johnson, Cheryl Cooper, Shelly Jenkins, Josh & Juli Grant; seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 2 p.m., Sunday, September 2, 2007 at Jarvis Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Grant, Rev. Keith Wesson and Rev. Lloyd Gibbs officiating. Burial will be in the Arkadelphia Cemetery. Pallbearers are Greg Cooper, Lloyd Dean Leonard, Ronnie Hopper, Paul Wheeler, Ronald Uptigrove and Ricky Leonard. Honorary pallbearers are to be her brothers. Memorials may be made to the Arkadelphia Cemetery Association, c/o Mrs. Tina Burt, 773 Ashley 13 Road, Crossett, AR 71635.
