John Michael Carey, 86, of Norphlet died Thursday morning in a local hospital following a brief illness. He was a retired farmer and a member of the First Baptist Church in Norphlet. He was a Mason and a member of the Norphlet Lodge. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Addie Carey, Norphlet; two daughters, Mrs. R. H. Graves, Haughton, La., and Mrs. Sam Smart, Sr., White Oak, Tex.; two sons, W. C. Carey, Smackover, and J. T. Carey, Norphlet; eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Norphlet with the Rev. Henry Davenport and the Rev. D. C. McAtee officiating. Burial will follow in the Norphlet Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Kenneth Boldosier, Earl Eowman, John H. Davidson, Roy Hollier, Tommy Benton and Charlie Morrison. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Norphlet Lodge. Graveside rites will be conducted by the Norphlet Lodge No. 718 F and AM.
