KELLEY, Emory S. - Emory S. Kelley, father of Harry Kelley, owner of the Meteor Theatre, died suddenly Monday afternoon of hemorrhage of the brain. Mr. Kelley was 76 years of age and had enjoyed comparatively good health up until the day of his death. Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church, South Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. R.S. Hayden officiating. Burial was made in the City Cemetery. Surviving him is his widow, Mrs. Julia Kelley and three sons: Harry Kelley of Bentonville; Clarence Kelley of Huntsville and Ray Kelley of Fayetteville, also by three daughters, Mrs. Nina Pickering of Bentonville; Mrs. Frank Runkles of Springdale and Mrs. Agnes Burnett of Hardy, Okla. Twenty-seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive him. Mr. Kelley was born near Springfield, Mo. February 13, 1853. On December 24, 1876 he was married to Miss Julia Smith of Springfield. Two years later Mr. and Mrs. Kelley moved to Western Kansas where he engaged in farming. When they had spent sixteen years and passed through the many hardships that was experienced by those hardy pioneers in that state Mr. Kelley had seen the Great American Desert develop into the granary of the nation. Before moving to Huntsville, Arkansas in 1912 eight years were spent in Oklahoma. For the past nine years he has been manager of his son's lumber yard there. At the time of his death he was visiting his children in this city and contemplated moving here later in the year. Mr. Kelley was reared by Christian parents who were members of the Methodist Church and likewise Mr. Kelley endeavored to rear his family in Christian principles. Mr. Kelley had been very active and energetic throughout his life and continued this activity up to the last. He is numbered with the hardy pioneers of the mid-west who served under handicaps yet with a victorious spirit. The pleasant social order that this generation of citizens leave speak well for the labors of their hands. Truly these pioneers have builded well.
