Rogers Democrat

WHITE, Cecil - Cecil White died very suddenly Monday morning about nine o'clock at his home on North Eighth street and the unexpected death was a great shock to the family and to the entire community. Mr. White had been feeling as well as usual the day previous and had spent part of the day in an auto drive to the river. Sunday night he had an attack of acute indigestion or heart trouble and did not feel well enough to go to work the following morning. He was sitting in a chair in his room when his father-in-law, Mr. Daugherty, heard a noise from the room and upon investigation found that Mr. White had fallen across the bed and was dead when he reached his side. Funeral services were held at the Christian church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 and were conducted by Rev. Eli Myers, owing to the absence from the city of the pastor, Rev. Shockley. Cecil White was born in Galena, Kansas September 2, 1870 and died Monday, August 1st, at the age of 50 years, 10 months and 29 days. He moved with his parents to Oswego, Kansas when a child and grew to manhood there. He was married to Miss Blanche Daugherty at Elk City, Kansas August 30, 1906. To them were born three children, one dying in infancy. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Eugene and Harry White; his mother, Mrs. Jane White; a sister, Mrs. Ira Ellege of Mound Valley, Kan. and one brother, who lives at Atlanta, Ga. Mr. White came to Rogers in October 1899 and has since made his home here. He has had charge of the harness department of the Benton County Hardware Co. ever since they began business in Rogers and at the time of his death was the oldest man with them in point of service. No man in Rogers stood higher in the esteem of his friends, employers or the community in general than Mr. White. He has always been one of the steady, reliable, industrious men of Rogers and his death is a distinct loss to the town and county. He belonged to the class of men that we are to prone to overlook because they are not often in the public eye and hold no position of civic honor. They build good homes and keep them in repair; they raise the families from which our future leaders come; they make good wages and save their money; they are the backbone of our churches, our schools and our local enterprises. Rogers can ill spare such men as Mr. White.
