Linda Davidson Martin, 58, of Ulm passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at her home surrounded by her family.
Linda was born February 5, 1953, in Millington, Tennessee, to Rodney and Nola Derrick Davidson. She was a 1971 graduate of Stuttgart High School and was retired as an employee of the State of Arkansas.
Linda was a person who truly loved being with others. Her house was more often than not filled with the laughter of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, or anyone else who might wander by. She loved to entertain and was a very accomplished chef. Her gumbo recipe was known far and wide as one of the best. She loved gardening with her husband, and together they canned what they grew and kept their friends and family well supplied with fresh vegetables. Many hours were spent there, teaching her grandkids about picking green beans and making their favorite - pickles. She was always a big supporter of her grandchildren in whatever endeavor they tried. She wouldn't miss a dance recital, pageant, ball game or concert. Nana (as she was known by her grandchildren) was always there for a hug or a snuggle, or just to talk. She was a devout Lutheran who was very strong in her faith, especially in the face of a long battle with cancer. Her strength was an example to everyone who knew her.
She had many friends. You couldn't meet her and not like her. She was loyal to those around her, and would do anything to help someone in need. She was an avid reader and loved playing her piano.
For 32 years, she was a constant companion to her husband, Richard. They spent their time together fishing, camping, hunting, and just enjoying nature in general. They were the perfect complement to each other. In the last few years, she found great joy in welcoming her newest grandchildren, and even a few great-grandchildren to her large brood. She was always excited when her babies were around. Even when her health was failing, she was always glad to hold one or two of her little angels. That never failed to lift her spirits and always put a smile on her face.
She leaves a great void in our lives and will be missed greatly. We are all better for having known her.
Survivors are her husband and lifelong companion of 32 years, Richard Martin; their five daughters, Natalie (Josh) Carr of North Little Rock, Jenalee (Garrison) Roddey of Rogers, Tammy (Marty) Gordon of Hot Springs, Lisa (David) Skinner of Stuttgart and Marty (Steve) Knoll of Stuttgart; her parents, Rodney and Nola Davidson of South Carolina; her brother, Mike Davidson of South Carolina; grandchildren, Kindell, Corinne, Kyah and Charis Carr, Barrett and Tatum Roddey, Monica (Ray) Dodson, Alec Gordon, Tara (Cody) Shook, Hannah (Jeremy) Covington, Abby and Alyssa Richards and Drew Knoll; and great-grandchildren, Braylon, Meyah and Makenzie Gordon and Lola Kate Shook.
Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Johnny Graham, are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Ulm with burial following in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation is from 5-7p.m. Friday at Turpin Funeral Home. A private family visitation will be from 4-5 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 158, Ulm, AR 72170, or Stuttgart Public Library, 2002 S. Buerkle, Stuttgart.
