*Truman T. Higgins, 91, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, in a local nursing home.
He was a self employed carpenter; he was an Army Veteran having served in WWII. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and three Bars for service overseas in Germany. He served from 1942 through 1945 in Company D 406th Infantry and 102nd Infantry Division. He was a member of the American Legion-Ellig Stouffer Post 31 in Fort Smith and also a member of the V.F.W. He was a member of the Van Buren Old Town Car Cruisers Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth M. Higgins; two sons, James & Troy Higgins, his parents, Hamilton and Mayme Higgins, two sisters, two brothers.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Sarah Grove Cemetery in Cedarville.
He is survived by a daughter, Mamie Sisk of Fort Smith; two sons, Ira Higgins and Roger Higgins, both of Van Buren; a sister, Tressie Steele of Los Gatos, Calif.; a brother, Leon Higgins of Livermore, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Curtis Anderson, Jim McClure, Terrill McClure, Jackie Belt, Eddie Watson and Junior Bing.
