TORBETT, Emily Adelle BLAKE - Mrs. D.H. Torbett died yesterday noon at her home, one half mile north of Avoca, at Halfway Farm. She had been failing in health for a year or so but had been seriously ill for only ten days or more. It was barely two weeks ago that the writer talked with her in Rogers and she told of the remodeling of the country home and her plans for the coming year. She began to fail rapidly the first of last week and the children and other relatives were summoned to her bedside. Funeral services will be held at the home Friday afternoon at one o'clock and will be conducted by W.F.D. Batjer of the local Episcopal church. Burial will be in the Rogers cemetery. The death of Mrs. Torbett brings to a close one of the most useful and active lives we have ever known. Moving with her husband and family to Rogers some thirteen years ago, Mrs. Torbett was identified with every civic movement of value while she was a resident here and when they moved to the farm she became a leader in the School Improvement Association work at both Brightwater and Avoca. Mrs. Torbett taught both of these schools and in 1918-19 she taught in the Rogers public schools. Emily Adelle Blake was born December 16, 1875 at Nevada, Mo. where she was married February 14, 1893 to David H. Torbett. To them were born three children, all of whom are living: Harry Torbett, who lives on the farm; Mrs. Betty Gains of Wichita Falls, Tex. and Joe Torbett of Kansas City. She is also survived by her husband and by her brothers and sisters: H.D. Blake of Wagoner, Okla.; Will A. Blake of Jackson, Miss.; Mrs. Sadie Grommet, Tulsa, Okla.; Mrs. Katherine Gulick, St. Louis; Mrs. I.B. Lumpkin, Coweta, Okla.; Mrs. Dave Hutchins of Checotah, Okla. All of the family have been here the past week. The family came to Arkansas from Oklahoma in 1900, locating at Prairie Grove. They came to Rogers in 1907 and have lived either in town or at Halfway Farm, halfway between Avoca and Brightwater, since that time.
