HERD, Nellie B. STOCKTON, In memory of Sister Nellie B. Herd, who died at her home in Herd, Benton county, Ark. April 19, 1908. Sister Herd {nee Stockton} was born in Buchanan county, Mo. June 22, 1871. When young she moved with her parents to Carroll county, Ark. At the age of about twenty she was born again and joined the Missionary Baptist church near where she lived. She was married to Bro. A.B. Herd December 24, 1894 by which marriage three children were born, Roy, Ethel and Arthur, who survive her. After she was married she moved her church membership to New Prospect Baptist church where she remained a faithful member until death. Her life as a neighbor, a wife, a mother and a Christian is seldom if ever surpassed. She was always happy to meet and ready to help her neighbors, always having a smiling face and a life full of song. As a wife she was truly devoted to her husband, always doing her duty and filling her obligations. She was indeed a true helpmeet. She loved her children fervently and was very desirous that they grow up to be honorable men and women so she was continually looking after their education and training in both a spiritual and temporal way. It was her delight to provide for her home and make and keep it comfortable and happy. But her highest ambition was the cause of her Savior, whom she loved best and served most. Her Christian life and character was such that all might imitate with safety. When her church meeting days came she was there unless providentially hindered. She was a great lover of Sunday schools, attending regularly and had a class of young men and women whom she loved dearly and delighted to instruct them in the ways of righteousness. Her love for this class was reciprocated as was manifest at her burial. They were the pall bearers. To the bereaved husband and children let ye sorrow not even as others which have no hope. J.L. Atchley, W.T. Gann, Jno. Hall.
