Mrs. Armstrong Dies Here Tuesday P. M.
Mrs. Mary Alice Armstrong, aged 79, died Tuesday afternoon at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Faye Moody, of this place. Her death was not unexpected, as she had been critically ill for several weeks.
Mrs. Armstrong was the widow of the late Browning Armstrong, well known citizen of Oxford, where the family resided for several years. She was born in Lawrence County and moved to Izard County early in life. At the age of 16 she was untied in marriage to Browning Armstrong, to which union ten children were born. Her husband and five children preceded her in death. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by two sons, Edward Armstrong of Phoenix, Ariz., John Armstrong of California; three daughters, Mrs. Belle Peart and Mrs. Ida Peart of the state of Washington and Mrs. Annie Reeves of Calico Rock; one sister, Mrs. Ana Grimmett of Larkin, Ark., and five brothers, M. F. Smith of Ft Worth, Texas, Ben Smith of Oklahoma, W. R. Smith of Brockwell, L. W. Smith of Oxford, and W. F. Smith of Calico Rock.
Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ at Oxford, Thursday afternoon at 5 o’clock, with the Rev J. R. Haws of this place officiating.
Pall bearers were Vaiden Harkleroad, Theo. Garner, Hale Garner, Cecil Brimitt, Jim Dillard and Paul Stoner. Burial was in the Oxford Cemetery under direction of the Roller Funeral Home of Calico Rock.
