WING, Anna CLARKE - Mrs. S.B. Wing died yesterday morning at 5:30 o'clock at her home on West Poplar street, No. 620, after an illness of several years. She began sinking several days ago and was unconscious for the last twenty-four hours previous to her death. Funeral services will be held at the residence this afternoon (Thursday) at 2:30 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. Eli Myers, pastor of the Central M.E. church. Burial will be in the Rogers cemetery by the side of her husband. Miss Anna Clarke was born April 13, 1858 in Alabama but most of her life previous to coming to Rogers was lived in and near Salem, Illinois. She came to Rogers shortly after the city was platted in the early 80's and was married to Stephen B. Wing of this city May 17, 1883, being one of the pioneer women of the town. To them was born one daughter, Miss Winnifred, who has been the very faithful companion and attendant of her mother during her long and trying illness. Mr. Wing, who was one of the real pioneer fruit men of Northwest Arkansas and one of the best known growers of the entire Southwest, died here February 18, 1903. Mrs. Wing is survived by three sisters: Mrs. W.R. Cady of Rogers; Mrs. Martha Higgins of Chicago, who has been here the past few months assisting in caring for the deceased, and Mrs. Amanda McMackin of Salem, Ill. She has also one brother, Dan Clarke, of Rogers. Mrs. Wing was a member of the old Congregational church when she became a member of the congregation of the Central M.E. She was a woman of many splendid traits of character and her home was always a gathering place for the girl friends of Miss Winnifred. For many years in close touch with Rogers Academy, the Wing home is always most kindly remembered by members of the faculty who so often sought refuge there from the cares of school work.
