Anna May Beede, devoted mother of two, grandmother of nine, great-grandmother of twenty-seven, and great-great-grandmother of three, died peacefully at home in Houston, Texas, on Sunday, May 16, 2004. She was born on Hutchinson Mountain, the eighth of Willie Etter Green Grady and William Frederick Grady's nine children. She had recently celebrated her ninety-fourth birthday on April 4, 2004, surrounded by all of her loving family. May's greatest legacy was her passion for her large, extended family that she adored. Her sweet, generous nature will be greatly missed and the family reunions she so cherished will not be the same. Her smile and positive nature were infectious and inspirational to everyone who knew her. Her joy for life, even for the smallest and seemingly insignificant parts of her day, touched not only those who crossed her path, both motivated her through the more challenging parts of her heroic ninety-four years. May was, quite simply, a gift to us all. Today, our skies are darker for her absence, but the heavens are brighter by one amazing angel.

May was preceded in death by her parents; her infant daughter, Mary Lee; infant grandsons, William Autrey Reed and Mark Houston Reed; grandson Robert Forrest Reed; five brothers and three sisters; son-in-law, Chester James Reed, Jr.; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is survived by her son, George Junius Beel and wife Anita of Pasadena, TX; her daughter, Billie Jean Reed of Houston, TX; grandchildren Junius Ray Beel and wife Lianne, Chester James Reed III and wife Joan, Rebecca Beel Eggers and husband Sonny, Lisa Reed Field and husband Steve, Valerie Reed Klein and husband Nathan, Hank Bradford Beel, Debbie Beel Gunter and husband Roy, Cindy Beel Wolfe and husband Nick, and William Patrick Reed; great-grandsons, Hank Beel, Jr., Guy Eggers and wife Lynn, Michael Beel and wife Liz, Chris Eggers, Charlie Beel, Jody Eggers, Daniel Beel, Bradford McKinney, Brett Watlington, Alec Beel, Ian Gunter, Aaron Reed, Lewis Leavitt, James Reed, Reed Ballis, and wife Liza, Christopher Leavitt, Jake Ballis, Jed Reed, Seth Reed, Joel Reed, and William Reed, Jr.,; Great-granddaughters, Jennifer Beel Collins and husband Darren, Lauren M. Leavitt, Sarai Reed, Kristen Beel, Lisl Gunter, Lauren F. Reed.
May was the daughter of William Frederick "Bill" and Willie Etta (Green) Grady. On December 10th 1925 in Batesville, Independence County, Arkansas, she was married to Charles H. "Charlie" Beel by J. R. Lawrence, J.P. She and Charlie had three children, Mary Lee, George Junius, and Billie Jean. Charlie is buried in Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville, Arkansas. May later married Forrest Grant and Walter Beede. May published a book on her family, "The Grady Family Story,"1990.
