Betty Jo Payne age 80 of Everton, Arkansas, died Monday, July 24, 2006 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mt Home, Arkansas. She was born June 2, 1926 in Yardelle, Arkansas the daughter of Joe & Nellie McDougal Wheeler. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Thomas R Payne and her sister Arminta Wheeler & her brother Omer R “Mon” Wheeler.
Betty Jo met her only true love “Rex” Payne in 1951. They were married and set up housekeeping in Bruno, Arkansas. They lived in a house that Rex and the Mennonites built. Betty was a homemaker & wife of a cattle farmer for 45 years. Everyone referred to her as “Aunt Betty” & family & friends were important to her. She enjoyed visiting with her great-great nieces & great-great nephews telling them stories, singing songs & making hot cocoa in July or December. Aunt Betty enjoyed watching the “Grand Ole Opry” & old time westerns. She was an avid musician &singer. She loved her weekly trips to Silver Dollar City for fourteen year where she would meet & become instant friends with people from all over the world. She would exchange letters & plan visits with each & every one. Betty was know as “Major Payne” ( loved by all.
Betty Jo Payne is survived by her sister Willadean “Dean” Wheeler of Yardelle, Arkansas, Her loving brother John Wheeler of Yardelle, Arkansas, her niece & husband Linda &Bill Miracle of Bruno, Arkansas, her great niece & husband Tawnya & Cheste Cape of Bruno, Arkansas, her great-great niece Kira, her great nephew Cody, her great-great nephews Brent, Derek & Jacob, numerous nieces & nephews all of her fellow “pickers” & friends at Silver Dollar City & a host of other family & dear friends throughout the community. – this was from Christeson online.
