The Melbourne Times, Melbourne, Arkansas, August 4, 1955:
Oxford Resident Passes Away
Funeral services for Walter H. Helm who passed away unexpectedly at his home at Oxford Saturday, July 30, were held Monday afternoon, August 1, at the Oxford Church of Christ. Directing the services were Eld. Jack Hobby of Calico Rock, assisted by Rev. Remmel Rowden of Oxford. The song service was in charge of Earl Dillard.
Mr. Helm was born near Violet Hill May 12, 1879, but most of his life was spent in the vicinity of Oxford. He had been a member of the Church of Christ 50 years.
He was married in August 1906 to Miss Susie R. Lawson who still survives him. To this union six children were born all of whom survive him. These include three sons; Hershel, Arlin and Hayden Helm all of Oxford and three daughters; Mrs. Tommy Speak and Mrs. Fred Mason of Calico Rock and Mrs. Donald Walling of Salem. Other survivors are two brothers, Jim Helm of Melbourne and J. J. Helm of Oxford, one sister, Mrs. Hattie Julian of Oxford, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Following the funeral services burial was in Oxford Cemetery under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of Salem. Pallbearers were Ed Kankey, Paul Grills, Gordon Rowden, Otho Webb, Henry McCollum and Noel Martin.
