Mrs. Uen Benbrook, Oxford Resident, Succumbs at 77

Georgia Claiborne Benbrook, a daughter of the late George and Mrs. Claiborne was born near Engle (now Gorby) November 13, 1883 and passed away at her home in Oxford at the age of 77 years and eight months.

She was married December 21, 1905 to Uen Benbrook who survives her in the home. To Mr. and Mrs. Benbrook were born five children, two of whom preceded her their mother in death by several years. The three surviving children are Howard Benbrook of Oklahoma City, Okla. and two daughters, Mrs. Ray Thurner (Eunice) of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Hobert Landers (Edith) of Salem, Arkansas. Other survivors include one brother, D. J. Claiborne of Oxford, one half brother, Walter Claiborne, of Okemah, Okla., and one half sister, Mrs. Fannie Cooper of San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren, numerous other relatives and many friends.

She had been a member of the Methodist Church for more than fifty years and was a dedicated Christian.

Mrs. Benbrook had been a resident of Oxford for some thirty-five years, having moved here with her family from the vicinity of Wideman in 1926.

She was a faithful and true companion, a devoted mother, a loving sister, a kind friend nd as such her presence will be sadly missed in her home and community.

Memorial services were conducted in the Oxford Methodist Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon by Rev. Remmel Rowden of Oxford and Miss Mary Chaffin of St. Paul.

The memorial songs were directed by Grayden Bone with Mrs. Tressie Edmonston at the piano.

Burial was made in the Oxford Cemetery by Leland Carter Funeral Service of Salem, with Al and Mae Pomery in charge. Pallbearers were: Hayden Helm, Edison Dillard, Raymond Webb, Joe Clifft, Roy Singleton and Eldredge Sherrell.
