MELBOURNE — Verlen Harris, 95, of Melbourne died Thursday, March 13, 2008, in a Batesville hospital.
Born Oct 27, 1912, at Flat Rock, she was the daughter of John Jones Jr. and Elgie Myrtle Chadwich Jones. She was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, gardening and attending gospel singings. She worked until she was 76. She was a member of Flat Rock Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Carroll Harris of Seattle, Arnold Harris of Melbourne and Bobby Harris of Mountain Home; four daughters, Verniece Yancey of West Plains, Mo., Lena Taylor of Tulsa, Okla., Rose Wiles of Melbourne and Jeanette Hallman of Moxee, Wash.; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Samuel Clay Harris; a granddaughter, Debra Taylor; a great-granddaughter, Crystal Hallman; and 17 brothers and sisters.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home Chapel in Melbourne with the Rev. Terry Sager officiating. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Greg Harris, Dewayne Hallman, Terry Harris, Wayne Harris, Kenny Johnson, Sanders Lee Wyatt, Dennis Reeves, Steven Rush, Heath Johnson and George Stikowski.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
