SHINN, Frances INGRAM Liming - Mrs. Frances Shinn died June 29 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F.M. Haswell of Garfield. The funeral services were held Friday at the Christian church at Garfield and were conducted by Rev. J.P. Dillon of Rogers. The following obituary is by a friend: To John and Hepsa Ingram of Smith County, Tenn., near the city of Nashville, there was born Dec. 3, 1828 a girl, Frances. She lived there for nearly four years when her father, who was of the old pioneer stock, moved to Pike county, Ill. Losing her mother before she was twelve years old, the burden of the household and the care of her younger brother and sister fell on her. Here she grew to young womanhood and was wooed and won by John P. Liming, an enterprising farmer of that vicinity. With him she lived happily for twelve years, bearing him several children, when death entered the home and took the bread-winner. Left a widow with a family of young children looking to her for support she bravely faced the hardships and trials incident thereto. In the latter part of 1860 she married Jno. D. Shinn of the same neighborhood with whom the ups and downs of life were met with the cheerfulness begotten of a congenial union. This companionship was ended by the death of her husband over 23 years ago. She lived in the counties of Pike and Adams until about 32 or 33 years ago when the family moved to Colbert, Okla., opposite Dennison, Texas. On account of the insalubrity of the climate at this point, after a years stay, the family started back to Illinois, most of them being sick. Reaching Elkhorn, near Garfield, so many were so seriously ill the family had to stop and when all members had regained their health a decision was reached to locate there and it is in that neighborhood Mother Shinn has lived for the last thirty-one years and over 22 years of that time her home has been in Garfield with her son-in-law, F.M. Haswell, the Frisco station agent there. She is the mother of ten children, two died in childhood and the others are still living. A.W. Liming, her oldest son, is a cattleman in Adair, Texas and had lately written that he would visit his mother this summer after an absence of over 20 years. Her next son, J.P. Liming, is in business at Keifer, Okla. and her youngest, W.H. Shinn, is at Bartlesville, Okla. Her oldest daughter, Mrs. America Giddings, is at Pryor, Okla. and two daughters in Kansas are Mrs. Mary A. Brown at Madison and Mrs. Ollie Cox at Altoona. One daughter, Miss Florence Liming, has been with the mother all her life. This daughter has been blind since a child and has been the special care and charge of her mother and of the youngest daughter, Mrs. Clara Haswell. There are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Shinn united with the Christian church nearly 35 years ago and has lived a consistent member of that faith ever since. No tramp was ever turned away hungry from her door and the call of distress, no matter from anyone so humble or poor, was quickly answered by her. She could be cited as an ideal neighbor back in Illinois and for miles around she was known as Aunt Frankie, and in the vicinity of Garfield she was even better known as Grandma Shinn. Her delight was in the activities of a useful working life and she was never more happy that when doing something for another person. As an example of the old pioneer virtues no better model could be found in the state than Frances Shinn.
