Ruth Arlene Jarrett Bettis, 83, of Batesville died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, in a Batesville nursing home.
Born April 29, 1923, in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of James Henry Jarrett and Rittia Martisha Vance Jarrett. She worked at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, N.J.; the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock; as executive housekeeper at White River Medical Center from its inception; Arkansas Sheriff’s Youth Ranch; and retired as housekeeper from Lyon College. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Bettis of Batesville and Ronald Bettis of Conway; two daughters, Deborah Boles of Batesville and Suzette Bates of Cave City; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Arlean Bettis; a great-grandchild, Ryne Gregory Bates; her parents; four brothers, William Jarrett, Austin Jarrett, Arthur Jarrett and Odes Jarrett; and six sisters, Ozella Mobley, Marie Jarrett, Maurine Herndon, Ola McLeod, Devonia Cox and Clearise Russell.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Poughkeepsie Church of Christ with Troy Henley and Delbert Mobley officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
Pallbearers will be Eric Bates, Donald Goudeau III, Greg Bettis, Matthew Bettis, Ronald Smead and Michael Higginbottom.
Honorary pallbearers are David Goudeau, Dr. Jim Lytle, Nathan Norris, Billy Van Winkle, the staff at Wood-Lawn Nursing Home and Dr. Robin Williams.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to Arkansas Sheriffs Youth Ranch.
