Jesse Milton McGlothlin died at the government hospital in Tucson, Ariz. last Thursday of tuberculosis from which he had suffered the past several years, the greater portion of the last 4 years having been spent in government hospitals. The remains were shipped to Gentry arriving here Monday morning and funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Highfill Baptist church, conducted by Revs. Rice and Smith, followed by burial in the Highfill cemetery under the direction of Carpenter Bros. of Gentry. A squad of former service men and O.R.C. men officiated at the grave a fitting military funeral over a departed one who had willingly "done his bit" for his country. The services were attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends who wished to pay their last respects to a friend. The deceased was born July 30, 1893 near Highfill, Ark., growing to manhood in that section. When the call came for service to his country he volunteered and entered training in the naval departments, being in camp on the Great Lakes. Serving as wireless operator on a submarine about two years his health failed him owing to the exposure to which he was subjected. He returned to the farm home where he spent a year with his father but finding he was unable to do farm work he took up the study of telegraphy at Paris, Texas, coming to Pine Bluff, Ark. to finish the course. While there his health again declined and he entered the government hospital at Ft. Bayard, New Mexico where he spent a number of months after which he was moved to the sanitarium at El Paso, Texas. From there he was removed to Tucson, Arizona about a year ago where God called him to "come up higher." He became a Christian at about the age of 19 and joined the Missionary Baptist church at Highfill where his membership has remained and during his long illness he remained a very devoted Christian. He is survived by his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. S.H. McGlothlin of Gentry, his own mother having passed away when Jesse was a small child; one brother, Lorenza McGlothlin, Buena Park, Calif.; 3 sisters, Fannie Robbins, Highfill; Gertrude Osborne, Buena Park, Calif.; Cordia Whitlock, Bentonville, Ark., a number of other relatives, besides a host of friends who mourn his departure.
