GARFIELD -- Jack Dure Bridges, 77, of Garfield passed away June 8, 2008, in Garfield. Mr. Bridges was born May 19, 1931 at Monte Ne, the son of William and Oma May Little Bridges.

He entered the United States Army in 1952, where he served in the Korean War and was discharged in 1954 as a Sergeant 1st Class. He married Wilma Green June 20, 1954, in Monte Ne.

One of the first truck drivers hired by Wal-Mart, he retired after 18 1/2 years. He enjoyed hunting, farming, dominoes and playing pitch. Jack was formerly a member of Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church in Pea Ridge and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Garfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and four brothers.

He is survived by his wife Wilma of the home; two daughters; Lisa Yarbrough of Sparta, N.J., and Stacey Schleisman of Pea Ridge; a grandson and three granddaughters.

Funeral services will at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at the First Baptist Church in Garfield with Pastor John Gibson officiating. Interment will be in the Liberty Cemetery near Garfield. Military Honors will be by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3031 of Rogers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, June 10, at Benton County Funeral Home in Rogers, online at

Pallbearers will be Will Markey, Eddie Eden, Travis Green, Bill Dail, Jim Peters and Bob Brandon.

Honorary pallbearers will be Harmon Noland, Lemoine Wright, Mo Letch, Gene Taylor and Doug Patton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, c/o Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. Fourth St. in Rogers (downtown). Online condolences can be made at www.bentoncountyfuneralhome.com.
