JACKSON, Miss. — James Peel Jr., 79, died Thursday, June 19, 2008, in Jackson, Miss.
Born Dec. 30, 1928, in Batesville, he was the son of James Peel Sr. and Lula Fleming Peel. He was raised in the Batesville area. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He was a retired welder for Lanier Company in California and returned to Batesville in 1995. He was a member of the New Testament House of Prayer.
Survivors include his wife, Ora English Peel of Batesville; his mother of Batesville; four sons, Ellie Peel of California, Dexter Peel of Albuquerque, N.M., Alvin Peel of Jackson, Miss., and Christopher Peel; nine daughters; a brother, Ralph Fleming of Batesville; 33 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father; a son, Jamie Peel; a daughter, Elizabeth Peel; and a granddaughter.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Willis Funeral Service Chapel with Roy Ford Sr. officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville.
Honorary pallbearers are his sons and brother, Jamie Peel, Ellie Peel, Dexter Peel, Alvin Peel, Christopher Peel and Ralph Fleming.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon.
