Obituary for Helen Irene Evans McCurley:
Helen Irene Evans McCurley, daughter of the late Jeff Evans and Elsie Maddox Evans was born October 5, 1916, in Rush Creek. She departed this life on June 28, 2005, in Calico Rock. She was 88 years old.
She was united in marriage to James Ewell McCurley on May 18, 1934, in Melbourne. He passed away in 1997. She spent her life as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a Ward Secretary at White Rive Healthcare in Calico Rock. She retired after 23 years of employment. Helen was of the Methodist faith and a member of the Flat Rock Methodist Church.
Mrs. McCurley leaves to mourn her passing; one daughter and son-in-law: Kathleen and Norman Montgomery of Viola; five sons and four daughters-in-law: James and Carolyn McCurley of Oxford, Jerald and Myrna McCurley of Wideman, Kenneth McCurley of Wideman, Keith and Pat McCurley of Wideman and Teddy and Phyllis McCurley of Oxford; one half-brother: Joe Evans of Tennessee; eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years, James McCurley: two infant sons; one sister: Christine Fowler; one brother: Harvey Evans; two grandchildren: Michael Montgomery and Kelli Franks.
A graveside funeral service was held at Flat Rock Cemetery on June 30 with Bobby Coleman officiating. Pallbearers were Scott McCurley, Brent McCurley, Doug McCurley, Monty McCurley, Toby McCurley and Emery Weems. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Calico Rock.
