Marvil Eugene Hill

IMBODEN - Marvil Eugene Hill of Imboden went to be with the Lord Jesus on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at his home surrounded by his wife and family. He was 85 years old.

He was born Sept. 2, 1925, in Powhatan to the late Alonzo and Lizzie Bell Seward Hill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, seven sisters and one great-grandchild.

He married Calverine McLaughlin on May 7, 1948, near Powhatan.

He was a faithful member of the Imboden Assembly of God. He was a retired port captain who spent most of his life on the river working for A.L. Mechling, Rose and Security barge lines. He was an avid coon hunter and bluetick breeder who was inducted into the Arkansas State Coon Hunters’ Hall of Fame in 2006. He loved being surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren.

Marvil is survived by his wife of 63 years, Calverine of the home; one son, Marvil Jr. and Martha Hill of North Little Rock; three daughters, Carol and Truman Chatman of Doniphan, Mo., Melissa and Ray Dickson of Imboden and Becky and Ray Toland of Nevada, Mo.; sister, Nadine Verkler of Eaton; and nine grandchildren, Pam Dial, Sam Hill, Terry Dickson, Micheal Dickson, Karen Marlow, Joe Hill, Chris Toland, Tim Chatman and Matthew Toland. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening at Higginbotham Funeral Service in Walnut Ridge.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Imboden Assembly of God. The Revs. Michael Bradley and Rickie Hawkins will officiate.

Burial will follow in Oak Forest Cemetery at Black Rock. Pallbearers will be Marvil’s seven grandsons.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service of Walnut Ridge.

Imboden- Calverine Hill went to be with the Lord Jesus on October 12th, 2015, at her home while surrounded by her family. She was 84 years old.

She was born March 28, 1931, in Black Rock, Arkansas, to the late Calvin and Anna Lourine (Smith) McLaughlin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvil Eugene Hill, one sister, Marion Frances McLaughlin, and one great granddaughter, Alyssa Dawn Marlow.

She married Marvil Eugene Hill on May 7, 1948, near Powhatan. She was a faithful member of the Imboden First Assembly of God Church. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. During her life, she taught adult, youth and children’s Sunday school classes. She actively participated in nursing home ministries. She was a known prayer warrior and spiritual leader by family and friends. She was an avid gardener and landscaper. She was a gifted song writer, pianist, and singer who blessed many with her songs. She was a fabulous cook who loved being surrounded by family. She will be greatly missed.

Calverine is survived by one son, Marvil and Martha Hill, Jr. of North Little Rock; three daughters, Carol & Truman Chatman of Doniphan, MO, Melissa and Ray Dickson of Imboden, AR, and Becky and Ray Toland of Nevada, MO; nine grandchildren: Pam Dial, Sam Hill, Terry Dickson, Micheal Dickson, Karen Marlow, Joe Hill, Chris Toland, Tim Chatman, and Matthew Toland. She is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren, two sisters, one brother, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 6-8pm at McNabb Funeral Home. Funeral will be Friday, October 16, 2015 at 10am at Imboden Assembly of God Church with Michael Bradley and Ricky Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Forrest Cemetery in Black Rock.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Imboden Assembly of God Church building fund, or Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Little Rock, AR.
