Wife of Andrew J. Ryan. Mercedes Iola (Thennes) Ryan the daughter of Mathias Anton Thennes and Genevieve Ula (Difani) Thennes.
Mercedes I. Ryan, 84, of Walnut Ridge, died Jan. 7, 2009.
Born March 4, 1924, in Jonesboro, she was the daughter of Mathias and Genevieve Difani Thennes. She was a sales clerk for Sloan's and Van Atkins department stores in Walnut Ridge and was also employed by Skil Corporation. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for 64 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Andrew J. Ryan, whom she married Jan. 7, 1943; five brothers, Mathias Thennes, Jacob Thennes, Matt Thennes, Patrick Thennes and Mike Thennes; and four sisters, Genevieve Baltz, Ula DeClerk, Vera Thennes and Clementine Thennes.
Survivors include five sons, Jack Ryan, Wynne, Terry Ryan and Tim Ryan, both of Walnut Ridge, Mark Ryan, Rogers, and Maurice Ryan, Spring, Texas; four daughters, Sharon Askins, Fayetteville, N.C., Mary Ryan and Marie Ryan, both of Little Rock, and June Duckworth, Walnut Ridge; two sisters, Clara Price, Pharr, Texas, and Elaine Hoelscher, Pocahontas; a brother, Joe "Colonel" Thennes, Flippin; a sister-in-law, Virginia Thennes, North Little Rock; 19 grandchildren, James Askins Jr, Andrea Askins Hardy, Michelle Askins Thompson, Kelly Duckworth Williams, Andrew Duckworth, Matt Ryan, David Ryan, Makayla Ryan, Nic Ryan, Patrick Ryan, Jacob Ryan, Peter Ryan, John Thomas Ryan, Jack Ryan, Michael Ryan, Mark Christopher Ryan, Catherine Ryan, Phillip Ryan and Hannah Ryan; and three great-grandsons.
Funeral was Saturday at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Paul Worm officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
