Dessie Olevia Baker, 99, of Batesville died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at a local nursing home. Born Nov. 13, 1902, in Locust Grove, she was the daughter of Clinton "Clint" Columbus Barnes and Nellie Elizabeth "Lizzie" Blevins Barnes. She was a former Jamestown postmaster, charter member of Jamestown Presbyterian Church, member of the Home Demonstration Club and owner-operator of a store in Jamestown for many years. Survivors include a son, James C. Baker of Missouri; six grandchildren, David Baker of Little Rock, Donald Baker of Arizona, Cathy Drew of Batesville, Col. Allen Baker of Washington, D.C., Lt. Col. Thomas Baker of Newport, R.I., and Carol Crutchfield of Jeffersonville, Ind.; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Allen Eugene Baker; a son, Archie Lee Baker; and a brother, Hugh Barnes. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville with Leo Candler officiating. Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Winfred Reed, Phil Poff, David Baker, Allen Baker, Donald Baker and Jeff Drew.
Honorary pallbearers will be Thurman Richardson, Ray Dene Floyd, Orville Elumbaugh, Tom Inman, James Inman, Dr. Lackey Moody and Kenny Gerhardt.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight
