Aug 8, 1919 - Jas. J. Stockard is Dead
James J. Stockard age 52 years, one of the best known citizens of this vicinity died at Watson Hotel Tuesday at about 7 o’clock p.m., Aug 5, 1919 after an illness of only three days. On last Sat afternoon Mr. Stockard suffered a stroke of paralysis in his left side and from Sun morning until the time of his death he was unconscious. He and his son had been occupying an adjoining room of their store building for several months but he was removed to the Watson Hotel Monday. Mr. Stockard was born in this county near Wideman but for several years lived at Wild Cherry where he was engaged in the mercantile business. About two years ago he moved here and engaged in the grocery business, which he sold a few months ago. He had many friends, being a citizen of high type and admired for his many estimable characteristics. Deceased is survived by a son, a daughter, and a brother. The remains were taken to Wild Cherry where burial took place Wed. afternoon. Rev. J. W. Johnston of Bexar conducted funeral services.
