July 15, 1927:

Tom Adams Dies Suddenly

Tom Adams 65, prominent citizen of Violet Hill, died suddenly Monday morning of this week, while attending the opening exercises of school at Billingsley School House.

He had gone to the school opening and it is supposed he began to feel ill and had started to the water bucket to get a drink and fell in the aisle, dieing a few seconds later without speaking.

He had been complaining at times for the past two weeks, but thought his ailment was stomach trouble, and had not thought anything serious would result.

He is survived by his wife and two children. Interment was in the Violet Hill Cemetery late Monday afternoon.

The Times extends unfeigned sympathy to the bereaved relatives in their hour of grief.

Note: Gravestone has a death year of 1928 inscribed; however, his obituary and the Arkansas Death Index show that he died July 11, 1927.

And that of his wife,
Melbourne Times, Melbourne, Arkansas, October 3, 1919:

Gone Home

On August 23 the death angel visited the home of Thomas Adams and claimed for His own his companion.

Mollie was born Feb 2, 1875, being 44 years, 6 months and 21 days old. She was converted early in life and joined the M. E. Church.

Her godly and upright life proved that she was a child of God. Through she is dead, her works are not dead. She leaves behind her a sorrowing husband, two children, one sister, three brothers and a great number of friends to mourn her departure. She will be missed, but well it can be said:

"A precious one from them has gone,
A voice they loved is still,
A place is vacant in their home,
That never can be filled."

Weep not bereaved ones, your loss is her gain. May you live so that when death comes you can meet her again. May her memory ever be your guiding star to heaven. --- A Friend.
