Harvey S. Powell,
died here Sunday

Harvey S. Powell, 86, of Mountain Home, former Baxter County sheriff and retired farmer and livestock dealer, died Sunday at his residence at 201 W. 7th St. He was a Baptist and a Mason.

The son of James E. Powell and Susan Edney Powell, he was born Jan. 4, 1886, in Baxter County and was a lifetime resident of the county. He was married to Martha A. White on Oct. 26, 1913. His wife died on Oct. 4, 1970.

Survivors include three daughters, Miss Ruth Powell, Mrs. Nell Wright and Mrs. Nathilea DeMers, all of Mountain Home; two grandchildren, Mrs. Gary James of Middletown, R. I., and Miss Julie Wright of Nederland, Colo.; five brothers, Jesse E., Edney and Howard H. Powell of Gassville, David C. Powell of Texarkana and T. O. Powell of Cross Plains, Tex,; and two sisters, Mrs. Ben H. Lamb of Gassville and Mrs. H. W. White of Cotter.

The funeral service was conducted Tuesday at the First Baptist Church with the minister, Rev. Harold Elmore, officiating. Interment was in the Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery, west of here, under the direction of the McClure-Smith Service.

Pallbearers were Roy Tilley, Miles Lonon, Joe Sallee, Don Palmer, Fay Nelson, Benny Young, Hugh Hackler and M. E. McClure.
