Charlie Arnold of Alicia Killed in Auto Accident
ALICIA--Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Charlie Elmo Arnold, 62-year-old farmer of this community who was fatally injured late Friday afternoon when his car hit the rear of a truck on Highway 57, two miles north of Newport. He died in a Newport hospital several hours after the accident.
Mrs. Arnold, who was riding with her husband when the accident occurred, was seriously injured and is in a Newport hospital.
The couple had been visiting relatives in Batesville and were enroute home when the accident occurred. The truck was driven by James Glidewell, 21, of Newport, who said he had stopped his vehicle to make a left turn off the highway.
Mr. Arnold was a native of Alicia, having been born here on Dec. 29, 1900. He was a Methodist and a member of the Lawrence County Board of Education.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Gladys Arnold; three daughters, Mrs. Letitia Fulenwider, Hot Springs, Mrs. Jeanetta Teague, Tyler, Tex., and Mrs. Elizabeth Fowlkes, Pine Bluff, a brother, Roy Arnold, Alicia, and four grandchildren.
The Rev. Eugene Hall and the Rev. E.W. Bruner conducted the services at the Alicia Methodist Church.
Burial was in the Stranger's Home cemetery with Bryan Funeral Home, Hoxie, in charge of arrangements.
