Mrs. Gates was a homemaker and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Jersey. She married Carroll Edward Gates on July 24, 1926. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Edward Gates; one daughter, Katherine Louise Dalton; and her parents, John R. Rowell and Mattie Mae Temple Rowell. She was survived by one daughter, Carolyn Hopper of Harrell; one sister, Mistle Hollingsworth of Hermitage; 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
