CHASE, Virginia (Smith) - (from Centerton) The community was saddened last Thursday on hearing of the death of Mrs. J.W. Chase, the mother of C.V. Smith, our high school principal. The teachers and pupils attended the funeral at Gravette Friday in a body.

C.V. Smith went to Gravette last Wednesday on the account of the illness and death of his mother, Mrs. J.W. Chase. Mrs. Chase has been in ill health for some time. Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 Friday afternoon conducted by the Rev. Cooper of Gravette, pastor of the Christian church there. A number of students and friends went to Gravette to attend the funeral. Mrs. Chase is survived by her husband and one son, C.V. Smith, principal of the Centerton school.

The funeral for Mrs. Virginia Chase, who died at the family home Wednesday, were held at the home Friday afternoon at 1:30. Rev. Cooper conducted the services and burial was made in the Gravette cemetery. Mrs. Chase is survived by her husband, one son, Charles V. Smith of Centerton, and a sister, Mrs. J.W. Long of Gravette. She was born in the southern part of Texas Nov. 12, 1845. When quite young her parents moved to Missouri and thence to Benton county in about 1863. Mrs. Chase has made her home in Gravette since that time.
