FAYETTEVILLE — Anna Mary Dennis, 86, of Fayetteville, died Sunday, May 9, 2010, at Washington Regional Medical Center.

She was born May 20, 1923, in Sunset, Ark., the daughter of Jack Henry and Gertie L. Evans Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren L. Dennis on Jan. 19, 2007; a son, Louis L. Dennis in 1952; two brothers, Eldon Davis and Clyde Davis; and three sisters, Bonnie Miller, Gladys Cox and Jackie Davis.

She was a retired employee of the Baldwin Piano Company. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved making clothes for her daughters. She was a charter member of Sang Avenue Baptist Church. Bunch's legacy is left in her family. She was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She devoted her life to raising a family that was soundly grounded in faith, kindness and respect. She modeled a life of purity, hard work, quiet dignity and love for all. "Bunch" Dennis was respected by everyone who knew her. She will be remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharron Dennis and Bud of Brentwood, and Brenda Mills and her husband, Billy, of Fayetteville; a brother, Weldon Davis and his wife, Doris, of Round Mountain Community; three sisters, Jerryldene Payton and her husband, Gene, of Baldwin Community, and Carmel Elkins and Flo Tabor, both of Wichita, Kan.; four grandchildren, Grayson Walker and his wife, Angie, Aaron Allen of Fayetteville, Kristi Hammons and her husband, Josh, of Brentwood, and Whitney Flora of Little Rock; four great-grandchildren, Kristen Walker, Arianna Allen, Sawyer Hammons and Alexis Allen; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 13, at Moore's Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Paul Dennis. Burial will be in Nickell Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Moore's Chapel.

Warren L. Dennis of Farmington died Jan. 19, 2007 at Washington Regional Medical Center. He was born March 12, 1924, in Hazel Valley, the son of Luther and Josephine Nickells Dennis. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Louie L. Dennis; five brothers, Wayne, Hubert, Skeet, Marion and Andy Dennis; three sisters, Blanche Lewis, Ruby Hatley and Mary Lee Dennis.

He was a World War II veteran serving in the U. S. Army with Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 502nd Parachute Infantry, 101st Airborne Division. He earned his Parachute Jump Wings at Fort Benning, Ga. He participated in operations in Central Europe, the Rhineland and Ardennes, and his unit parachuted behind enemy lines to participate in the invasion at Normandy. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge and two Purple Hearts for his actions and injuries during the operation. He also received several other unit and individual awards and decorations.

He was a Fayetteville police officer and served for 23 years. He attained the rank of sergeant during his service with the Fayetteville Police Department. He also served as a Deputy Sheriff for Washington County after his service with the department.

He was a proud Christian man who loved his family very much. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids. He was known by his family as someone who could always be counted on or relied upon for his ability to care for and support his family or community.

He also enjoyed a lifetime of hunting, especially with his brothers. The brothers are widely known by many people, and have been accused of walking over most of the woods and fields in Washington County while hunting. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing the biggest and the best tomatoes. Warren was extremely proud of his country and his military service. He often talked of his service as an Army paratrooper and of the 101st Airborne Division (The Screaming Eagles). Frankly, he enjoyed being out there on the edge.

He was a charter member of Sang Avenue Baptist Church in Fayetteville.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anna Mary (Bunch) Davis Dennis, of the home; two daughters, Sharron Stewart of Fayetteville, Brenda Mills of Fayetteville; two brothers, Kenneth Dennis of Fayetteville, Paul Dennis of Fayetteville, one sister, Donna Jo Reed of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, Grayson Walker, Aaron Allen and Kristi Hammons of Fayetteville, Whitney Flora of Little Rock; three great-grandchildren: Kristen Walker, Arianna Allen and Sawyer Hammons of Fayetteville.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Moore's Chapel with the Rev. Paul Dennis officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Nickell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Moore's Chapel. Memorials may be made to Nickell Cemetery Association.

Pallbearers will be Lawrence Lewis, Don Dennis, Dwayne Dennis, Von Dennis, Gary Howard, Dennis Young, Sonny Davis and Travis Eddings.

Honorary pallbearers will be retired and former members of the Fayetteville Police Department.
