Lawrence County,
Arkansas

Survey Completed: Apr 2007

See: [Garmin MapSource Map]

Early in the spring of 2007 a project to reclaim Broom Cemetery was began when a group got together and as a team cut trees and brush and cleared over 1000 sq ft. The cemetery is one of the older cemeteries in the eastern district of Lawrence County. The cemetery has become completely overgrown. There are missing and damaged headstones. The road to the cemetery is impassable by vehicles, except 4 wheelers.. There have been several reclamation events and family members with loved ones interred at Broom Cemetery were invited to particpate in the clean up as well as members of the community at large. The work is slow, the cemetery was competely covered in trees and brush. A perimeter was drawn around the site and they set to work. These pictures were taken in May of 2007. One man began this project with the help of some friends and he continues to go once a week or more to cut and haul. Below you will find his name and address...if you feel you would like to help with a donation...it will be used to reclaim this old cemetery. Your donation of time in helping reclaim the cemetery is also very welcome. You will also be able to view a few of the pictures from May 2007. There will be updates and other pictures available as more head stones are found.
