Fay (Kirk) Arnn of Sidney passed away Saturday, June 11, 2005 at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
She was 87 years, 9 months, and 15 days of age.
She was born Monday, August 27, 1917 in Izard County, Arkansas, the daughter of Phillip Kirk and Duetta (Sims) Kirk.
Fay Kirk was a graduate of Sidney High School and Arkansas College at Batesville. She was an educator for 28 years. She began her career in a one room school house, known as “The Mouth”, located between Cord and Strawberry,on the banks of the Black River. She also taught at Mount Pleasant and Kiaser before the onset of World War II.
During the war, Fay worked as a government munitions inspector at the Arkansas Ordinance Plant in Jacksonville, Arkansas. Toward the end of World War II, she traveled by train from Jacksonville, Arkansas to Reno, Nevada to marry Lloyd Arnn, on October 12, 1945, who at that time was in the Army and stationed in nearby California.
After the war she resumed her teaching career which included appointments at Sidney, Evening Shade, and Cave City. She retired from the Cave City School District in 1979.
She was the widow of former Sharp County Judge Lloyd Arnn, and was a member of the Sidney Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Most of all, Fay enjoyed spending time with her family and her grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, Joe Lloyd Arnn of Sidney; one daughter, Nancy Ratliff of Cave City; three grandchildren, Kirk and Jeremy Ratliff of Cave City, Jodi Arnn Moody of Sidney; four great-grandchildren, Korbin, Gracen and Ashley Ratliff of Cave City, Macy Jo Moody of Sidney; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lloyd Arnn, and a brother, Earl Kirk
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, June 13, 2005 at Sidney Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sidney.
Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch-McGee Funeral Home of Cave City. (870) 283-6602.
Visitation is from 3:00-5:00 PM, Sunday, June 12, 2005.
